Declining Soil Fertility and Low Crop Yields
Smallholder farmers in Rwanda struggle with poor soil quality, leading to low agricultural productivity. Soil degradation and over-reliance on inorganic fertilizers reduce yields and worsen poverty, leaving farmers unable to afford better inputs to improve their land’s fertility.
Heavy Reliance on Polluting Biomass for Cooking
Over 98% of Rwandans rely on firewood and charcoal for cooking, contributing to severe deforestation, air pollution, and health issues. This overuse of biomass not only depletes natural resources but also harms the environment and human health, with 6,932 fatalities linked to solid fuel pollution in 2019.
Unmanaged Waste Contributing to Environmental Degradation
Agricultural and municipal waste in Rwanda is often burned or sent to landfills, releasing harmful methane gases and contributing to climate change. Mismanaged waste threatens both the environment and public health while missing opportunities for waste valorization that could benefit the economy.
Limited Access to Clean Drinking Water
Many rural communities in Rwanda lack access to clean, safe drinking water, relying on contaminated sources that contribute to waterborne diseases and poor health outcomes. Inadequate water filtration systems exacerbate the problem, leaving vulnerable populations at risk of illness and limiting overall quality of life.

Agroenable transforms waste into high-impact products that empower smallholder farmers and rural households. our innovative biochar fertilizers, water filters, and bio-cooking fuels provide long-term, affordable, and eco-friendly alternatives to traditional methods.

Improves soil fertility and yields: AgroEnable’s biochar increases crop yields by 35-50%, improving soil structure and water retention, ensuring smallholder farmers can achieve more resilient harvests.
Carbon-negative and eco-friendly: Every tonne of biochar produced by AgroEnable sequesters up to 3 tonnes of CO2, providing a long-term carbon sink that helps mitigate climate change.
Affordable and sustainable: Biochar is a cost-effective alternative to chemical fertilizers, offering better results with fewer inputs and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

Cleaner, healthier cooking: AgroEnable’s biofuel burns twice as long as traditional charcoal, while releasing 60% less CO2 and 88% fewer pollutants, significantly reducing household air pollution.
