Our Strategic Biorefinery Model in Action
ABC3’s biorefinery model transforms agricultural residues and biomass waste into value-added products, including biochar-based fertilizers, biodegradable packaging materials, and renewable energy fuels. Our approach doesn’t stop at innovation—it extends to validation. Through strategic customer trials and partnerships, we’ve successfully demonstrated real-world impact.
1. Partnership with AgroEnable Ltd – Regenerating Rwanda’s Soils
Our cornerstone partnership with AgroEnable Ltd has enabled the deployment of advanced pyrolysis technology to convert biomass into high-quality biochar. This biochar is further processed into organic fertilizers designed specifically to combat soil acidity—a pressing issue affecting Rwanda’s agriculture sector.
Through field trials with both individual farmers and organized farmer groups across the rice, maize, and vegetable value chains, results have shown up to a 30% increase in crop yields. These trials not only validate the agronomic value of biochar but also empower farmers with sustainable inputs that enhance soil life and long-term productivity.
2. Partnership with Climactive Ltd – Sustainable Packaging from Waste
In collaboration with Climactive Ltd, ABC3 has pioneered the development of biodegradable paper packaging made from banana stalks and pineapple leaves. This innovation turns agricultural byproducts into eco-friendly alternatives to plastic packaging, creating new income streams for rural farmers while responding to growing market demand for sustainable packaging.
During a six-month customer trial, Climactive Ltd integrated these materials into their production lines and experienced a 20% increase in customer satisfaction. The trial affirmed the viability and appeal of biodegradable solutions in Rwanda’s packaging industry.
3. Partnership with EnvoCare Ltd – Renewable Energy for a Biomass-Dependent Nation
Over 90% of Rwanda’s population relies on biomass for cooking. This dependence puts immense pressure on forests and contributes to carbon emissions. To combat this, ABC3 partners with EnvoCare Ltd to produce and distribute bio-charcoal briquettes—a renewable alternative to traditional wood and charcoal.
EnvoCare’s direct distribution through charcoal cooperatives and trading organizations has led to a 25% reduction in fuelwood consumption during pilot trials. This initiative provides a clean, affordable cooking fuel while preserving natural forests and promoting household energy security.
